Steve has been employed at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill for over two decades. He became the CEO three years ago. He graduated from Villanova University and sits on the advisory council for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. He projects himself as a loving, friendly, and responsible family man. Firebirds’ customers are learning the truth though: Steve’s company – which reportedly had $338 million in sales in 2023 lacks corporate transparency and is seemingly profiting off of animal suffering.

Despite its previous commitment to transition to 100% cage-free eggs, it appears Firebirds continues to use eggs from hens kept in archaic cages where they can’t even fully spread their wings, dust-bathe, or express most of their natural behaviors. The animals experience extreme boredom and stress, and they often die in their tiny, filthy enclosures. Sometimes they are left to rot alongside their living cage mates.

Because of animal cruelty concerns and consumer demand, countless restaurants —including The Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden, and Outback Steakhouse — have already transitioned to using cage-free eggs, and 11 states have banned the use of cages for egg-laying hens. The public is speaking out against inhumane cages too, with countless people across the globe signing petitions to stop the cruelty.

But Steve stays silent.

He has claimed that Firebirds takes a “customer-oriented approach,” but continues to ignore the pleas of restaurant-goers like us who are begging him to use his power at Firebirds to end cages once and for all.

While he watches college basketball and enjoys his waterfront property he purchased for over a million dollars, hens are stuffed into cages so small that they can barely move because he refuses to follow through on an animal welfare commitment his company made years ago.

Steve, it’s time to stop ignoring your customers and take responsibility. Tell us: what is the real status of Firebird’s cage-free egg policy? We would love to return to Firebirds once we hear that the company has gone cage-free.
